‘Them’ Searches The Depths Of Insanity

‘Them’ Searches The Depths Of Insanity

Montevideo, Uruguay

‘Them’ is a psychological thriller short film that explores the human mind from its darkest side, with an introspective dialogue involved in a nightmarish and suffocating environment where the biggest obstacles tend to be one’s own thoughts. Claudia Rivarelli, an actor in the leading role, plays a mentally unstable character that moves straightforward to the depths of insanity, in this way emphasizing the distressing atmosphere in ‘Them’.

The director, screenwriter and producer, Carlos Bolla (under the pseudonym of Charles Bolprand), provides a minimalist and terrifying perspective, offering the audience the opportunity to create in their minds an idea typical of the most frightening fears. The shooting was carried out by Claudia Riverelli and Charles Bolprand head-to-head, providing a more suitable environment for the project’s purposes.

“We were alone at the set, so it allowed the actress to have better concentration, and it let me move freely. Most of the time, I remained silent after giving directions to Claudia, as what was happening was worth it and it was better not to speak, not to ruin the moment,” says the director, after the premiere of ‘Them’.

The film was produced independently, without any budget, and filmed in five hours. A Panasonic DMC-FZ200 camera and a TASCAM DR-05 audio recorder were the only equipment used for shooting. Natural light was used in set and the hallways of an old mansion in Pocitos (Montevideo, Uruguay) were chosen. All these factors play an important role in the final aesthetic of the film. ‘Them’ achieves a strained and stifling environment, where the psychological burden wraps the spectator in and prevents him/her from escaping.

See Something Wrong? Have A Suggestion?

Though the Beta testing is well in the past, we at Max It are always working to improve the site, keep the gears oiled, and all around tinker to improve the experience for both the indie filmmakers that submit content, as well as the indie film lovers that drop in for their daily fix.

Just like suspicious activity, we ask that if you see something wrong, have a suggestion, or would just like to tell us just what you like or dislike about the site, you let us know.

We've a lot of things still to add (No Peeking Behind The Curtain!), but we want to make sure what is current online is working without issues. To do this each day we'll add more articles, tweak a feature here, remove a feature there. Just to keep things moving along in the right direction.

To let us know of anything, just click on Contact in the Main Menu at the top and give us as detailed a description of the problem, or suggestion and we'll do our best to look to see if and how it can be fixed, or added!

As always, we thank you for your support!
