In the style of Wallace & Gromit, the new children’s claymation & book series The Adventures of Belly Bean was announced by the show’s creator Scott C. Brown. Launching as a grassroots production, this entertaining and educational series derives its strength by empowering children to make the smart choices in life, as well as making a social impact.
“Unlike most of my films, this is a pet project of mine that I originally wrote as a series of short stories for my daughter. It was only after people asked me when I was going to turn it into a show that I even considered it.” Stated Writer & Producer Scott C. Brown, from his home in Orange County, CA. “I didn’t want to take it the traditional route, which gives investors a huge percentage of the project. Instead I wanted to share the success of the project with those that worked to make it happen.”
Talent already signed to the project include; Award winning vocal coach M.J. Lallo, who plays the voice of Belly Bean, Stan Houston, best known for his role in ‘Selma’, plays the voice of Maddie’s Father, Carla Perez of the ‘Power Rangers’ plays the voice of Steppy, Maddie’s Stepmother, Michael Montgomery of the Green Bay Packers and ‘Gotham’, plays the voice of Belly Bean’s Father, Byron Cherry from the ‘Dukes of Hazard’ plays the voice of Geoffrey Gopher, and Jon-Paul Gates from ‘Hunted’ just to name a few.
“This initial campaign has already raised enough to get the high resolution still camera so we can start shooting the sizzle reel. The original concept trailer was shot with a webcam that we had no controls on. No ability to adjust the light, or focus. Just shoot and hope for the best.” Commented Scott “With the new camera, we’ll be able to bring the quality up dramatically and our goal on this campaign is to just get the basic pieces covered. Then present a better format to the fans and networks that have already shown some interest.”
Intended for a digital release, this children’s series integrates science, as Belly Bean, his best friend Maddie and her dog Logan travel with her writer father on his research trips around the world. Due to Belly Bean & Logan’s curious nature, they find themselves in some curious situations. Unlike most children’s shows, it is not the adults in the story that are the hero. Rather it is Maddie, using the lessons that she has learned by making smart choices, that ends up saving the day.
“One of the things that we are doing as part of our campaign is for every thousand dollars we raise, we’ll be going to a local hospital or children’s care facility, reading to them and giving them each a copy of the ebook.” Scott stated, “We’re not just trying to create a show and book series. We’re working to transition children’s shows to be more positive and empowering, rather than the snarky, negative habits that they so often create in their efforts to gain an audience. I truly believe that our approach will find a large, dedicated audience base to support that effort.”
